Review of promotion decisions

Ongoing APS and Parliamentary Service employees, at APS level 1-5 (or equivalent), who have applied for a promotion to a higher classification, may apply to the Merit Protection Commissioner to have a promotion decision reviewed.
Until late 2026, the MPC will be administering two different review of promotion decision processes. The first process is for vacancies advertised in the Public Service Gazette before April 1 2025. The second process is for vacancies advertised after April 1, 2025.
Step 1: Locate the 'Vacancy Number' and 'Advertised Date'
- Access the APS Gazette to search for the promotion notice of the decision you are seeking review.
- Scroll to 'Advertised' field.
- Locate the relevant 'Vacancy Number' (i.e. VN-xxxxxxx) and the 'Advertised Date' as highlighted below.
